Minimum Hour Requirement
| Fall/Winter |
14 Credits |
Spring/Summer |
6 Credits |
Individual scholarships may have different requirements--refer to your original award letter. If you do not maintain the required number of credit hours, your entire award will be canceled. You will then be responsible to pay all tuition charges and late fees.
Students enrolled in Study Abroad, Washington Seminar, approved Semester Away Programs, full-time BYU-approved internships, and student teaching are only required to take 12 credits per semester.
Credits that DO NOT count towards the hour requirement:
- Classes taken fall semester and repeated the following winter semester
- Independent Study (unless the Independent Study courses are taken through an approved program)
- Audited classes
- Exemption and language exams
- Classes taken at other institutions
Credits that DO count:
- Classes taken at the Salt Lake Center
- Online sections of classes (ONLY if they are registered for through AIM)
Contract Form:
To allow greater flexibility in scheduling, the Scholarship Office has provided two alternatives for students. Both require that you return a contract form to the Scholarship Office, A-41 ASB. Select either the 2006-07 contract form or the 2007-08 contract form. Please note that this form is not applicable to athletic and multicultural scholarships.
- 28-Credit Hour Alternative: If you have been awarded for both fall and winter, instead of taking 14 credits each semester you may contract to complete a total of 28 credit hours during fall and winter combined. You must have at least 12 credit hours during each semester.
- Credit Hour Reduction for Final Enrollment: You may request to take fewer credits during your last semester or terms prior to graduation unless you are obligated by contract to take more. Your scholarship will then be prorated. This means that if you were awarded a half tuition scholarship, your scholarship will pay half of the tuition you are charged for your credits (not the full dollar amount).
