If you believe extenuating circumstances interfere with your ability to comply with scholarship policies, you may request an exception by submitting a petition to the Undergraduate Scholarship Committee. Whenever possible, you must petition in advance.
To submit a petition:
- Send an e-mail to the Scholarship Committee at sch-petitions@byu.edu
- Type your name and student ID number in the subject line.
- Describe your circumstances to the committee and make a specific, clear request.
- If you are petitioning based on medical circumstances, please have your doctor send us a letter verifying that your medical condition necessitates an exception to policy. Our fax number is (801) 422-0235. You may use the physician's verification form if you wish.
The committee often considers extenuating circumstances such as
- serious illness, injury, or disability
- death or serious illness in one's immediate family
- extensive family responsibilities such as those faced by a single parent with dependent children.
Typically, exceptions are not made for
- marriage
- difficulty of curriculum
- employment
- graduate school tests
