Brigham Young University offers scholarships to select students, who have
demonstrated a serious and diligent commitment to academic excellence, as an
investment in their education. Scholarship funds are provided through tithes of
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and offerings of generous
friends of the university. They are given to encourage continued commitment to
spiritual and intellectual growth. The gift of a scholarship assumes an
obligation on the part of the recipient to use that investment wisely to
prepare for expanded and purposeful service in the Lord's kingdom.
We
invite all students to embrace the principle of replenishment by making the
commitment now to contribute financially to the university’s scholarship funds
as circumstances in life allow. This
generosity will ensure that future generations of students enjoy the same
opportunity to pursue a world-class education in an environment centered in the
gospel of Jesus Christ.
Dr. Paul Cox, former Dean of General Education and Honors, offers an
interesting perspective on BYU scholarships in a speech entitled "Your
Scholarship: Gift or Entitlement."
